The Benefits of Taking it Slow: Tips to Help You Do It

No doubt, there’s obvious pressure to move fast. We’re often told that if we don’t do something now, it’ll never get done. And while there is some truth to this, it’s important to remember the notion of “how we do anything is how we do everything.” We need to slow down, and explore the benefits of taking it slow. Below I offer tips on how you can do it in your own life.

Minimize Mistakes

When we’re rushed, we’re more likely to make careless errors. But if we take our time and focus on what we’re doing, we’re much less likely to make mistakes. Try setting a timer for yourself and “time block” your work or to-do list, so you can focus on doing things one at a time, knowing there is a timeframe to expense your energy.

Costly and Time-consuming to Fix

Mistakes are often costly and time-consuming to fix; taking your time initially can save you a lot of grief later on.

Understanding the What and Why

Taking your time allows you to really think through what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. This can help you avoid making decisions you’ll later regret.

Boosts Creativity

When we’re rushed, we tend to default to the first idea that comes to mind. But if we take our time and allow ourselves to explore different possibilities, we’re much more likely to come up with creative solutions. So, if you want to be more creative, it pays to take your time! Try brainstorming with a group of friends or colleagues and see how many ideas you can come up with in a set period of time.

Reduces Stress

When we’re rushed, we often feel like we’re constantly playing catch-up. This can lead to anxiety and feeling overwhelmed. But if we take our time and focus on one thing at a time, we’re much less likely to feel stressed. So, if you want to reduce stress in your life, it’s essential to take your time! Try setting aside some time each day for yourself – even just 15 minutes – and use that time to relax and de-stress.

Things At Home that Must Be Done Slow

  • First, in your daily routine, try to take things one step at a time.
  • Instead of rushing through your morning shower, take a few minutes to enjoy the sensation of the warm water on your skin.
  • Instead of wolfing down breakfast, take a few minutes to savor each bite.
  • Instead of cleaning all the rooms in one go, focus on cleaning one room per day. This will not only help you avoid feeling overwhelmed, but it can help you enjoy the process more.
  • Optimize dinner time; family time. Instead of rushing through dinner, take your time to savor the food and conversation.
  • Even the meal prep can be a fun bonding experience if you do it together! Try this pepper steak recipe, it takes a little longer to make, but it’s well worth the effort, and it gives you quality time with your loved ones.

We live in a world that values speed and efficiency, but that doesn’t mean we should always move fast. There are plenty of benefits to taking your time, so next time you’re feeling rushed, remember to slow down and smell the roses.

The beauty of being present can not only be seen but felt.
