Have you seen the news on vitamin D as the low-hanging fruit in COVID-19?

I am not intending to create “click bate,” yet, in functional medicine and nutrition, it’s important we are nourished, and especially during these times, that our vitamin D levels are adequate. With vitamin D, most of us are deficient, but you want to test and not guess. In the midwest it can be a common practice to need up to 5,000IU/day. If you have been tested or get tested, aim to be in a range of 50-70 ng/mL. Conventional labs will only flag low levels of vitamin D is below 30 ng/mL. Advocate your needs, investigate your levels, and ask questions.

Side note, your liver and then kidneys, colon, prostate, lungs, and other tissues must convert vitamin D into the active form. The enzymes that do this is magnesium, which 80% of the population is deficient in, and magnesium is required by 600 processes in the body. Make sure you are adequate in magnesium so you can utilize supplemental vitamin D.
