If you know someone living with Type 1 diabetes, this conversation might just shift how you (and they) think about blood sugar, energy, and overall health.

I recently joined the Yumlish Podcast to share a bit of my story and the method I’ve spent nearly two decades developing — the GRACE Method, a framework that helps people living with autoimmune disease take back control of their health using a functional, whole-body approach.

Why I Created the GRACE Method

I’ve been a dietitian for 18 years and have run my private practice for 13. Over that time, I’ve worked with thousands of people living with Type 1 diabetes, insulin resistance, and autoimmune conditions.

And one thing I’ve learned is this:
Managing blood sugar isn’t just about counting carbs or dosing insulin. It’s about understanding the entire ecosystem of your body — your gut, hormones, stress response, sleep, and daily habits.

When I started to connect these dots personally (as someone who also lives with Type 1 diabetes), I saw everything change — my energy, blood sugars, digestion, and even my mindset. I knew I needed to help others do the same.

That’s how the GRACE Method was born.

What GRACE Stands For

G – Gut health
Your gut is the foundation. It influences everything from inflammation to hormone balance to blood sugar regulation.

R – Routines
Stable routines create stable blood sugars. Building consistency around meals, movement, and sleep helps your body feel safe — and that shows up in your glucose trends.

A – Adrenal support & stress balance
Stress hormones can spike blood sugar more than a bagel. Supporting your adrenals helps your energy and insulin sensitivity.

C – Clean living
Reducing toxins and supporting your liver allows your body to detox efficiently and balance hormones naturally.

E – Exercise
Movement is medicine — not just for glucose, but for mood, muscle, and metabolism.

A Functional Lens for Type 1 Diabetes

Living with Type 1 diabetes means constantly managing variables — food, insulin, stress, sleep, hormones, and emotions. But when you take a functional approach, those variables start to make sense.

You see patterns. You learn how your body responds. And you can finally build a rhythm that supports, not sabotages, your goals.

That’s what I help clients uncover inside my group programs and private coaching — using data, functional labs, and personalized nutrition to build a plan that actually works in real life.
