Bacon lovers rejoice! T minus 25 days until INTERNATIONAL BACON DAY! Yes, I maybe overly excited as a registered dietitian pitching bacon BUT all food has it’s place in moderation and indeed bacon can be savored without sabotaging your waistline. My solution = Canadian bacon.

So what makes Canadian bacon different?
It’s from the north. No. Actually, Canada has little to do with it. Canadian bacon comes from the loin making it a leaner source of protein compared to other cuts. In fact, a recent study found that a protein rich breakfast, including Canadian bacon, helped dieters feel full, which could lead to eating fewer excess calories later in the day.

With only 89 calories, 4 grams of fat and a satiating 12 grams of protein per serving (2 pcs) Canadian bacon can be the go-to breakfast (lunch or dinner) food! As a believer in moderation and portion, I always suggest variety in your diet. Try to switch up the foods you eat to get your needed vitamins and minerals and don’t repeat a meal more than 5 days in a row.

Ideas for Indulging
One of my clients, the National Pork Board, features this Baked Egg with Canadian Bacon, Tomato and Potatoes recipe on their Website and it can be great for a Sunday brunch. Also, have you ever added crumbled bacon to your popcorn?! This snack idea has been all over food magazines. Try it out and let me know if you just love it!

Get excited for Internal Bacon Day, September 5th and send me your thoughts and recipes until then!

Have a healthy and fit day!
